ARGB infinity mirror water block, high-performance water pump fan | COUGAR POSEIDON GT 360 unboxing

COUGAR, a leading manufacturer of electromechanical radiators, showcases innovative ideas in integrated water cooling. Their newly unveiled POSEIDON GT is marketed as a top-tier water-cooling radiator. It features a high-pressure matte fan and a distinctively engineered right-angle fin design. This design surpasses traditional radiators by offering an enhanced surface area for better heat dissipation. The water pump can achieve speeds of up to 3200RPM and utilizes an internal zirconia bearing known for its durability and hardness.

The water-cooling head displays an infinity mirror design adorned with the COUGAR logo, which can be rotated to always face forward. It’s equipped with ARGB light beads that can synchronize with motherboard lighting via a standard 5V 3pin connection. The radiator has a deep gray aluminum alloy finish, accented by the COUGAR logo on its side.

Prior to activating the ARGB light, the water block has a mirror-like appearance. The surface that comes into contact with the CPU is crafted from copper. Instead of a pre-applied thermal paste, there’s a protective film over it which needs to be removed before use. The water block cable is fixed, with a 3pin DC power connector and an ARGB interface.

COUGAR POSEIDON GT 360 dual platform installation demonstration

The COUGAR POSEIDON GT 360 is compatible with several sockets, including Intel’s LGA 1700/1200/115X/2011/2066/1366 and AMD’s TR4/TRX4/AM5/AM4/FM2/FM1/AM3+/AM3/AM2+/AM2. It was installed and assessed on both the ASUS ROG Strix Z690-E GAMING WIFI and ASROCK B650E TAICHI motherboards.

The COUGAR POSEIDON GT 360 employs a distinctive mounting mechanism. First, you secure the buckle to the motherboard. Next, you position the water block over the CPU, rotate the buckle counterclockwise, and then fasten the screws.

Once familiar with this approach, it becomes quite handy. This allows you to pre-mount all the fastenings onto the motherboard and, within the casing, you only need to fit the water-cooling head. With traditional methods, screws can easily drop inside the case, a situation most users have likely faced at some point.

Then put the water-cooling head on, and it will feel tight when you turn it counterclockwise. Finally, tighten the screws.
Remove it and check whether the thermal paste is even and the result is normal.

The installation process for the AMD platform mirrors that of the Intel platform, with the sole distinction being the necessity to utilize the motherboard’s original backplate.

Right-angle fins, high-performance fan water pump | COUGAR POSEIDON GT 360 heat dissipation test

The test involved the premier consumer processors, the Intel i9-13900K and AMD RYZEN 9 7950X, paired with their respective motherboards for temperature evaluation. The Intel setup enabled XMP and power consumption limit removal, testing AIDA64 FPU at three voltages. The AMD configuration used the default PBO setting.

Testing tools:

  • AIDA64 FPU: Represents extreme conditions.
  • AIDA64 CPU: Represents daily load temperatures.
  • 3DMark Time Spy: Represents game load temperatures.
  • Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark: Represents actual game temperatures.
  • HWiNFO64: Records a ten-minute average temperature.

Intel Testing Setup:

  • Processor: Intel Core i9-13900K
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z690-E GAMING WIFI
  • Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 FE
  • Memory: CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB DDR5-6000 16G*2
  • OS: Windows 11 Professional Edition 21H2
  • Power Supply: COUGAR GEX X2 850W

AMD Testing Setup:

  • Processor: AMD RYZEN 9 7950X
  • Motherboard: ASROCK B650E TAICHI
  • Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 FE
  • Memory: CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB DDR5-6000 16G*2
  • OS: Windows 11 Professional 21H2
  • Power Supply: COUGAR GEX X2 850W

Results:

  • Under extreme AIDA64 FPU conditions, the Intel i9-13900K went beyond 100°C at the preset voltage, auto-adjusting its clock to 5.3GHz with a 300W power draw. This implies the COUGAR POSEIDON GT 360’s heat dissipation limit on Intel is approximately 300W. Yet, under LV.2 and LV.1 voltages, it held a consistent 5.5GHz without down-clocking, which is notably high. In typical scenarios, it rarely touched 90°C.
  • For AMD’s RYZEN 9 7950X, the peak power consumption was restricted to 210W, showcasing robust performance. The processor could fully exploit its potential, and the average gaming temperature never surpassed 70°C.

Summary

Following a thorough evaluation, the COUGAR POSEIDON GT 360’s buckle installation method stands out. This approach, once mastered, is notably user-friendly. It alleviates concerns about dropping screws inside the case during installation—a challenge that has led many manufacturers to adopt similar systems. COUGAR’s focus on enhancing the buckle installation experience is commendable.

The COUGAR POSEIDON GT 360 is marketed as a top-tier water-cooling radiator. Incorporating a high-pressure matte fan and a right-angle fin design, its heat dissipation results are impressive. Furthermore, its noise level is competitive with similar products. The ARGB water-cooled head, paired with a matte silver cooling frame, not only functions efficiently but also boasts a distinctive and aesthetically pleasing design.
