ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC Unboxing
The NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti is the third graphics card in the RTX 40 series, and it features the same core specification as the original RTX 4080 with 12GB of memory. The RTX 4070 Ti has 60 SM units and 7680 CUDA cores, as well as 240 fourth-generation Tensor cores and 60 third-generation RT cores. Like the rest of the RTX 40 series, the RTX 4070 Ti supports DLSS and dual NVENC encoders, giving users access to all of the features of the RTX 40 series.
The ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC flagship model is now more compact in size, with a length of 336 mm and a thickness of three slots. This means that players don’t have to worry about it not fitting in their case. The design of this graphics card is similar to the other models in the RTX 40 series ROG Strix line.
The core of the RTX 4070 Ti can be overclocked using the GPU Tweak III software to increase the Boost clock rate from 2610 MHz to 2780 MHz. It has 12GB of GDDR6X memory to run most AAA games at 4K resolution.
The RTX 4070 Ti still requires a 16-Pin 12VHPWR connector, so it comes with a 12VHPWR power adapter cable. If you don’t have an ATX 3.0 certified power supply, you need to use this adapter to connect three 8-Pin power cables to power the graphics card. The official recommendation is to use a power supply with a minimum of 750W to ensure that it can provide sufficient power to the entire system.
The accessories for the RTX 4070 Ti also include a Velcro belt, which can be used to tidy up the wires when installing the 12VHPWR power adapter cable. The accessories also include a graphics card support frame, although it is not made of metal. It has magnets on the bottom to secure the graphics card firmly.
Successful slimming, 3-slot thickness
The exterior of the RTX 4070 Ti maintains the familiar ROG Strix design of the RTX 40 series. The large gradient ROG logo gives it a powerful visual appearance. Upon closer inspection, it is clear that the three fans are slightly different from the previous models, with a diameter of 110mm and 11 blades. They are arranged in a staggered pattern, and while they are similar to the previous generation, they are larger and offer improved performance. They provide strong airflow to keep the graphics card cool.
The side of the RTX 4070 Ti graphics card has a simple design, with space left for hot air from the radiator to be expelled. A dual-mode switch is located above the words ‘GEFORCE RTX’, which allows players to switch between ‘P Mode’ and ‘Q Mode’. ‘P Mode’ provides better cooling performance, while ‘Q Mode’ offers a quieter experience. Players can choose between the two modes based on their needs.
The display output section of the graphics card has 2 HDMI 2.1 and 3 DisplayPort 1.4 connectors, which provide up to 4 display outputs and give players more flexibility in their output choices. The end of the graphics card has two 4-Pin PWM fan slots, which can be used to connect a fan to the graphics card for improved heat dissipation. There is also a ring-shaped ARGB light circle design at the end, which is visible whether the graphics card is installed horizontally or vertically.
The back of the graphics card is covered with a large metal backplate, which leaves a large open area at the end to allow the heat sink to extend beyond the PCB. This allows the airflow to pass directly through, improving the heat sink’s heat dissipation. The opening at the end is designed with an angled grille shape, allowing the ROG logo to be seen. This design helps to cool the graphics card and adds a touch of style.
16+3 phase power supply
Upon disassembly, the radiator can be seen. Unlike the RTX 4080/RTX 4090, the RTX 4070 Ti does not have a heat conductive sticker on the side of the metal backplate, but it does have a reserved spot for users to apply their own. The radiator uses a nickel-plated copper vapor chamber made with the MaxContact precision polishing technology to conduct heat away from the core and memory areas. It has 6 heat pipes running through the entire cooling fin.
The center of the PCB holds the RTX 4070 Ti core chip with the code name AD104-400-A1, and on one side are 6 2GB Micron memory chips with the code name D8BZC. The power supply uses a 16+3-phase digital power supply and Super Alloy Power II top aluminum alloy inductors with 15K capacitors.
GPU Tweak III Software
GPU Tweak III is a graphics card monitoring and overclocking software developed by ASUS. It offers three performance modes that players can use to quickly adjust the settings, and it also allows for manual overclocking. The ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC has a default setting that turns the fan off when it is not needed, and ASUS has optimized the fan settings for the RTX 40 series graphics cards in the software to achieve the best balance of cooling and noise performance.

Port Royal is a ray tracing technology simulation test with a default resolution of 1440p. The ROG Strix RTX 4070 Ti OC passed the test and scored 14,318 points on the graphics card test. The newly released Speed Way test was also conducted at 1440p resolution using the DirectX 12 Ultimate API, which includes various new technologies. The graphics card scored 5,496 points on this test.
The NVIDIA DLSS feature test includes tests of DLSS 2 and DLSS 3. In the tests, 1440p and 2160p were run in performance mode, and 4320p was run in ultra-high performance mode. DLSS 2 can provide about 2-3 times with the performance, and DLSS 3 can provide even more. It is worth noting that the 4320p resolution may be slightly too demanding for the RTX 4070 Ti, but the DLSS function can increase the frame rate to a playable level. These results are provided for reference.
The game tests include “Cyberpunk 2077”, “Watch Dogs: Legion”, “Far Cry 6”, “Forza Motorsport: Horizon 5”, “Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla”, “Microsoft Flight Simulator”, and “Rainbow Six: Siege” with resolutions of 1440p and 2160p for reference.
Based on the tests, it can be seen that AAA games can generally achieve a performance of over 60 frames per second with the 2160p special effects fully turned on, except for the demanding games “Cyberpunk 2077” and “Microsoft Flight Simulator” which have a slightly lower FPS of less than 60. Turning off some special effects can bring the FPS up to 60, making the RTX 4070 Ti a great choice for players who want to play at 4K resolution.
For demanding games like “Cyberpunk 2077” and “Watch Dogs: Legion”, the 2160p resolution will be around 30 frames per second, while 1440p will be around 60 frames per second. Enabling DLSS can provide a smooth gaming experience, and with DLSS 3, “Cyberpunk 2077” can have a frame rate increase of almost 4 times, and “Microsoft Flight Simulator” has a frame rate increase of more than 2 times. This can greatly improve the gaming experience without significantly affecting the image quality.
Authoring software tests
In the video editing software test, the RTX 4070 Ti was tested using DaVinci Resolve Studio 18, which supports dual NVENC encoders. A video was exported without edits or special effects, and the RTX 4070 Ti’s two encoders could run at full load. When exporting in H.265, the export time was shortened by 1/3 compared to the previous generation RTX 30 series graphics card with only one encoder.
Original file duration: 8 minutes and 37 seconds
Original file resolution: 2160p, 4320p original file frame rate: 29.97
Export format: MP4
The export resolution, frame rate: same as the original file
Bit rate: 80000 kbps
Encoding configuration File: Main
Bit Rate Control: Variable Bit Rate
Tuning: High Quality
However, most actual video creation involves editing and adding special effects to the original video before exporting. Therefore, an edited project with special effects was also tested. When exporting the video, it was found that the graphics card’s efficiency with special effects could not keep up with the encoder’s efficiency. Like a production line, if the assembly area’s production capacity is lower than the packaging area’s efficiency, the packaging area must slow down to match the assembly area. Therefore, the graphics card’s strong performance and fast special effects processing speed are necessary for the dual encoders to fully function. According to the author’s personal project test, the RTX 4070 Ti’s two encoders can’t run together when exporting a video. It will be slower than the RTX 3090 Ti, but it can also be seen that the time required to export the project is much faster due to the strong performance of the RTX 4070 Ti.
